Frequently Asked Questions

Definition of ADHD Disorder ? +

  • ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
  • ADHD is a complex neurological disorder that impacts the executive functions needed to assess, plan, and execute life.
Person’s with symptoms such as impulsivity, inattentiveness and hyperactivity. The symptoms differ from person to person. ADHD was formerly called ADD, or attention deficit disorder. Both children and adults can have ADHD, but the symptoms always begin in childhood. Adults with ADHD may have trouble managing time, being organized, setting goals, are even holding down a job.

Many of the time it is not hard to spot ADHD in kids. But an adult can have a more precise symptom. This means that there are many adults that are struggling with ADHD and may not know they have it. They may not realize the cost of the problems they face, including staying organized or being on time, it relates back to ADHD.

  • The indicators that you have described like a person cannot express, attentiveness problem and the abnormal actions, we as a parent generally do not take it seriously or ignore and later it turns to blue and affects our child's entire life.
  • And, I have personally observed these symptoms in many children and adults and we normally say that a person is a bully or abnormal rather it is a disorder and it requires a treatment rather than a termination or humiliation.

Based on your experience about what percentage of the population has been affected by ADHD disorder. And, Do we have data available online to see the statistics to analyze the ratio of the people who have ADHD symptions and what awareness and educational programs government is conducting to minimize the ADHD disorder from the society?

The estimated number of children ever diagnosed with ADHD, according to a national  survey, 6.1 million (9.4%).

This number includes:

  • 388,000 children aged 2–5 years
  • 2.4 million children aged 6–11 years
  • 3.3 million children aged 12–17 years

The numbers are alarming and we have to conduct more programs online and within the community to give awareness about ADHD disorder to treat on time to reduce numbers.

Because, generally people give more attention to a disease rather than a disorder, though both must be given an equal attention. A disease makes a person weak, whereas a disorder makes a society weak.

Can you please name each sign of ADHD disorder? +

There are ten potential signs I am going to share with your listeners that may indicate about the ADHD?

Here are the 10 potential warning signs of adult ADHD:

  1. Trouble Getting Organized
  2. Reckless Driving and Traffic Accidents
  3. Marital Trouble
  4. Extremely Distractible
  5. Poor Listening Skills
  6. Restlessness, Trouble Relaxing
  7. Trouble Starting a Task
  8. Lateness
  9. Angry Outbursts
  10. Prioritizing Issues

Trouble Getting Organized: +

Let's start with Trouble Getting Organized. It is observed that a person takes more time to finish a same chore than another person and it is one of the ADHD disorder symptoms of your list that you have just mentioned. Can you please elaborate to Trouble Getting Organized.

For people with ADHD, the responsibilities of adulthood -- bills, jobs, and children, to name a few -- can make problems with organization more obvious and more problematic than in childhood.

Reckless Driving and Traffic Accidents: +

Although, I never knew before I met with you Dr. Gordon that it is one of the types of ADHD disorders, because, I have noticed this disorder in many adults. Can you please share some details about Reckless Driving and Traffic Accidents Disorder?

ADHD makes it hard to keep your attention on a task, so spending time behind the wheel of a car can be hard. ADHD symptoms can make some people more likely to speed, have traffic accidents, and lose their driver’s licenses.

Marital Trouble: +

Absorbing a relationship, especially Marital is a vital global problem. Generally, both genders do not accept another person's presence or involvement in their lives and it is one of the reasons that we are observing the divorce ratio is increasing in our society. I personally, believe any relationship demands room, understanding and trust.

Can you please highlight a few signs of Marital Trouble Disorder? +

Many people without ADHD have marital problems, so a troubled marriage shouldn’t necessarily be seen as a red flag for adult ADHD. But there are some marriage problems that are likely to affect the relationships of those with ADHD. Often, the partners of people with UN-diagnosed ADHD take poor listening skills and an inability to honor commitments as a sign that their partner doesn’t care. If you’re the person with ADHD, you may not understand why your partner is upset, and you may feel you’re being nagged or blamed for something that’s not your fault.

Extremely Distractible: +

Shifting attention from one task to another and do not focus on the original task is one of the indicators of ADHD disorder. Dr. Gordon, can you please give some details about the extremely Distractible disorder?

ADHD is a problem with attention, so adult ADHD can make it hard to succeed in today’s fast-paced, hustle-bustle world. Many people find that distractibility can lead to a history of career under-performance, especially in noisy or busy offices. If you have adult ADHD, you might find that phone calls or email derail your attention, making it hard for you to finish tasks.

Poor Listening Skills: +

Some people do not give proper attention on listening a complete message and they generally face embarrassment and lose a trust. Dr. Gordon, can you please give some details about poor listening skills and how it effects on a person's personality?

Do you zone out during long business meetings? Did your husband forget to pick up your child at baseball practice, even though you called to remind him on his way home? Problems with attention result in poor listening skills in many adults with ADHD, leading to a lot of missed appointments and misunderstandings.

How would you define Restlessness, Trouble Relaxing-Restlessness, Trouble Relaxing? +

Stress, Depression and sleeping problem is one of the ADHD disorders which affects a person's work efficiency and become a cause of many severe health issues. Dr. Gordon, can you please tell us about the signs of Restlesness and Trouble Relaxing Disorder?

While many children with ADHD are “hyperactive,” this ADHD symptom often appears differently in adults. Rather than bouncing off the walls, adults with ADHD are more likely to be restless or find they can’t relax. If you have adult ADHD, others might describe you as edgy or tense.

Trouble Starting a Task: +

Trouble Starting a Task – It is observed that many adults wait for the last minute to start working and many times they messed up. It can be a fear, understanding issues, overwhelming or simply ignorance. We will ask Dr. Gordon about the Trouble Starting a Task and how it affects a person's personality and a professional career.

Just as children with ADHD often put off doing homework, adults with ADHD often drag their feet when starting tasks that require a lot of attention. This procrastination often adds to existing problems, including marital disagreements, workplace issues, and problems with friends.

Lateness : +

Lateness – Some folks have a discipline issue and we will ask Dr. Gordon what are the signs and what is the treatment?

There are many reasons for this. First, adults with ADHD are often distracted on the way to an event, maybe realizing the car needs to be washed and then noticing they’re low on gas, and before they know it an hour has gone by. People with adult ADHD also tend to underestimate how much time it takes to finish a task, whether it’s a major assignment at work or a simple home repair.

Angry Outbursts: +

Angry Outbursts  - Some children and adults have impulsive, aggressive, violent behavior and we will ask Dr. Gordon what are the signs and does he find such signs in children or in adults?

ADHD often leads to problems with controlling emotions. Many people with adult ADHD are quick to explode over minor problems. Often, they feel as if they have no control over their emotions. Many times, their anger fades easily, long before those people who dealt with their outburst have gotten over the incident.

Prioritizing disorder: +

Some adults have issues, identify their priorities. We will ask Dr. Gordon to share his opinion about Prioritizing disorder?

Often, people with adult ADHD miss-prioritize, failing to meet their obligations, such as deadline at work, while they spend countless hours on something not that important.

How do you diagnose that a person has ad ADHD disorder? +

If you think you have adult ADHD, get examined by a trained and experienced mental health professional. It can be hard to diagnose because some symptoms -- like poor concentration, motivation, or relationship problems -- can also be signs of other conditions. Depression and substance abuse can have similar symptoms. Once you get checked out, you can get the best help and you can start feeling better.
